Raleigh is North Carolina’s Capital and ranked as one of the
"Best Places to Live" in the U.S. This eclectic city features
a mix of natural and historic surroundings with very modern conveniences
and is the nation’s 12th most populous state.
Raleigh is centrally located with a short drive west to the nation’s
tallest mountain ranges this side of the Rockies and a short drive
east to the South’s prized white sandy beaches. With a historic
background of being home to the Native American Iroquoian, Siouan
and Algonquian tribes. One of the original 13 colonies, North Carolina
was the first to officially call for independence with the Halifax
Resolves in 1776.
In 1959, North Carolina combined its priorities of education and economic
development to create the Research Triangle Park, located between
Raleigh and Durham. Using Duke University, the University of North
Carolina and North Carolina State University as its capstone, the
Research Triangle Park developed into what today is the world’s
largest research park, serving as home to more than 100 research and
development organizations. The "park" is the furnace that
keeps Raleigh’s economy sizzling and its lifestyle chic.
Raleigh enjoys mild year-round climate that still provides four distinct
seasons; a lush, rolling landscape tailor made for everything from
agriculture to golf; plentiful water and blue skies. Raleigh’s
downtown is undergoing a stunning rebirth with residential units sprouting
up throughout the center city. New and superb restaurants and cutting
edge entertainment venues are opening their doors to serve the Capital
City’s residents (average per capita income $25,113 compared
to the national per capita of $21,587).
Downtown Raleigh is home to Fortune 500 business Progress Energy,
Raleigh's BTI Center for the Performing Arts, the North Carolina History
Museum, the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences and Exploris
children’s museum. Not to mention the new 500,000-square-foot
convention center and four-star headquarters hotel that will be welcoming
guests in 2008.
