Risks
of Remodeling Without a Permit
I
never recommend doing any home improvements without first obtaining
a permit. Yes, I will admit the inspection process to get your home
improvement projects complete can be time laborious and an added expense.
But permits are easy to obtain and easy to fill out and when the time
comes to possibly sell your house in the future, everything is documented
and will not complicate, delay or even forfeit the sale of your home.
After all, home improvements are something we do to increase the sale
of our home, so why jeopardize it?
If
you have not obtained the proper permits and inspections, you may
be subject to purchasing a more costly retroactive permit and having
walls and floors ripped up and rebuilt so that inspections can take
place.
Save
yourself time and anguish by always obtaining the proper permits and
inspections for your home improvements. You can obtain them at your
local city's web sites or by hiring a permit puller to do the research
for you.
